trained doctors (OTDs) who may be considering work in Australia and for
employers seeking to recruit them.

Information contained in DoctorConnect includes:
Royal Australian College of Practioners

NSW Rural Doctors Network
RWAV - Rural Workforce Agency, Victoria
These training and support programs have been specifically designed for overseas

Overseas Trained Medical Specialists
For an overseas trained specialist (OTS) to
be able to work in their specialty in Australia, registration must be obtained
from the Medical Board of the State or Territory in which they wish to work. To
achieve this, their specialist qualifications must be formally recognised by the
relevant Australian Specialist Medical College.
Specialist Medical Colleges
The
Specialist Medical Colleges set and administer the programs of specialist
medical training and examinations on a national basis and are largely
responsible for maintaining professional standards in the various medical
specialties.
The Colleges are responsible for:
- training Australian specialists;
- assessing overseas trained specialists (OTSs);
- providing opportunities for continuing professional development; and
- liaising with government to ensure the interests of medical specialists are represented in Australia

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council – International Section
The International Section of the
Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMC) is an assessing authority for the
Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
The ANMC conducts
an assessment of Registered Nurses and Midwives who intend to migrate to
Australia under the General Skilled Migration category. The ANMC has been
authorised by DIAC to undertake these assessments.
Through this process the ANMC
determines whether nurses and midwives are suitable for migration or whether
they may need to undertake further education in order to be eligible for
migration in the stated skill category.
