EYE of the Murray Regional Development Australia Murray, funded by Communities NSW Better Futures Strategy, delivered an exciting youth event management training project into five communities across the Murray Region in 2011.

Empowered Youth Events: EYE of the Murray Project trained and mentored students to deliver a unique community event in the townships of Deniliquin, Finley, Corowa/Rutherglen, Thurgoona and Mulwala/Yarrawonga.

EYE of the Murray Project was made up of a two day workshops which gave students practical event management training. This was supported by online mentoring through Facebook and guided support to run a community youth event. Each of the EYE of the Murray groups created and held their own unique events:
  • Corowa and Rutherglen held DJ Clash music event
  • Thurgoona created the Grand Lamb Slam a cook off
  • Mulwala produced “Indahoodz” music and hoodie festival
  • Finley held their “Finley’s Got Talent” event
  • Deniliquin held the “After Party” at the EYE of the Murray Youth Events Conference
Capping off the project was the EYE of the Murray Youth Events Conference held in Mulwala with guest speakers Nathan Hulls (motivational speaker) and Ben Suthers (organiser of the “Big Day Out”) providing invaluable information to the participants on events management.

These community and school events showcased the young people’s organisational and event management skills and engaged the youth community in a unique celebration. After The EYE Project has concluded the 50 youth event management graduates will be enrolled to join, volunteer and contribute to existing community events, such as the Deni Ute Muster and Y-Fest.

The Empowered Youth Events Project is seeking expressions of interest for 2012, from Student Representative Councils in the high schools across southern NSW, Moama/ Echuca, Deniliquin, Finley, Corowa/Rutherglen, Cobram/ Barooga and Mulwala/ Yarrawonga.
